The Lotus Sutra (Italian)

The Lotus Sutra (Italian)
Translation by Burton Watson

This new translation of the most important scripture in the Mahayana Buddhist tradition has a special value. Translation by Burton Watson from Kumarajiva’s Chinese version.
Since its appearance in China in the third century, the Lotus Sutra has been regarded as one of the most illustrious scriptures in the Mahayana Buddhist canon. The object of intense veneration among generations of Buddhists in China, Korea, Japan and other parts of East Asia, it has attracted more commentary than any other Buddhist scripture and has had a profound impact on the great works of Japanese and Chinese literature.
The entire text of Shakyamuni’s highest teaching, which forms the basis of our daily practice of NIchiren Daishonin’s Buddhism, was conceived as a drama of colossal proportions. Burton Watson’s translation provides readers with a clear understanding of this profoundest of works.

Lectures on the Expedient Means & Life Span Chapters of the Lotus Sutra (Italian) - new edition

The Lotus Sutra is the Buddhist scripture that reveals Buddhist benevolence and equality, and "Expedient Means" and "The Life Span of Thus Come One", that we use when we receive the sutra during our morning and evening prayers (Gongyo), are the core of the sutra’s 28 chapters. "Expedient Means" praises the Buddha’s wisdom in devising ways and means in order to lead the people to salvation, and "Life Span" honors the immense benefits gleaned by practicing the supreme law of the Buddha. Daisaku Ikeda explains the essence of the Lotus Sutra in easy words and shows that the humanism of Nichiren Daishonin Buddhism can rescue people today from their confusion.

Listen to the lecture of Toda on Hoben and Juryo chapters, from The Human Revolution vol.7 (Italian).
